Every Friday we look into our Basque archives for interesting historic events that happened on the same day

On June 5, 1910, the rules of the first “Basque Center” in Iruñea (Navarre) were written down. Antonio Irurzun became the first president and Manuel Aranzadi was appointed secretary of the newly created institution. The Basque Center’s mission was culturally focused. Its main purpose was to promote Basque culture by providing its members with cultural activities and entertainment. The center was formally inaugurated on June 24.
